Poland and Ukraine are two neighbouring countries in Eastern Europe, with close historical and cultural links. In these countries, extensive theoretical, experimental and applied studies are performed in the fields of adsorption, ion exchange, heterogeneous catalysis and surface chemistry. Therefore, natural tendency exists among the scientists in both countries to the co-operation in the solution of the fundamental and applied problems related to the physical chemistry of surface phenomena.

Also, it is important, especially for Ukraine and other independent states which are trying now to get themselves free of Russian military, political, economical, informational and other forms of occupation, to become closer to European standards in what regards not the science only, but also the thinking, lifestyle, and other human fields.

Therefore, the participation in the Symposia of scientists from other European countries, especially those Eastern European countries which had already join, or are about to join, the European Community, is very much appreciated.
